T is for Tears

Tears of grief come out of a place deep within us.

A good friend of mine died this past week. I miss her. There is an empty space where she used to be. I am sad because I want her to fill it. Someone else will pick up the slack and do the job—another nurse, another soprano, another neighbor—but I miss her.

I know she is not sad. The mist has parted and she is far beyond us in a perfect place. I know we will meet again, but here on earth there is a space.

It is okay to be sad, it means we have loved, and been loved. It means we have made a space. The love will stay and grow in our deep places. Love is the source of the tears.
